Study years (Grades) and levels
Create study years and set the level that drives grading.
A Grade is a study year (for example "Grade 9"). Grades give your school its year-by-year structure and hold your class sections. The Grades page shows each grade's order, its number of sections, and how many students are in it.
Create a study year
- Open Grades from the sidebar.
- Click "+ New grade".
- Enter a name (e.g. "Grade 9").
- Set the Order (controls where it appears in the list).
- Choose a Level (see below).
- Click "Create".
The Level field
Level tells the grading system which rules to use for students in this year. The options are Auto (High school), K-8, High school, and College.
- K-8 — a standards-based mastery scale; no GPA and no credits.
- High school — letter grades with a 4.0 GPA, credits, an honors/AP/IB weighting bonus, and honor roll.
- College — letter grades with a credit GPA, but unweighted (honors/AP/IB give no bonus).
- Auto — behaves like High school.
Note: Level mainly matters for the United States grading system, which has these sub-profiles. For International, UK and Europe systems, grades use a weighted average and Level has little effect.
