Roles and permissions explained
What each capability means and who has it.
Owners can do everything. Teachers have a set of capabilities that can be fine-tuned. Each capability controls one kind of action.
The capabilities
- Take attendance — start and run sessions for assigned classes.
- Edit attendance — correct check-ins after a session closes.
- View reports — see attendance analytics for their classes.
- Create classes — set up new classes and sessions.
- Manage people — invite, edit and remove teachers.
- Manage academics — grades, subjects and the timetable.
- Org settings — school profile, plan, grading and attendance rules.
Defaults
By default a teacher can take attendance, edit attendance, view reports and create classes. Managing people, managing academics and org settings are off by default. Owners have all capabilities.
The Roles & Access page
Owners can adjust two things here: the default capabilities for the Teacher role (applied to everyone), and per-person overrides for the four teaching capabilities (Take attendance, Edit attendance, View reports, Create classes). Changes save automatically.
Note: The Roles & Access matrix is included on every plan.
