Attendance rules and duplicate policy

Late thresholds, duplicate check-ins and parent alerts.

Owners can tune how attendance behaves in Settings under Attendance rules.

Late threshold

When students check in via QR, anyone who checks in after the "Late after" number of minutes (5 by default) from the session start is marked Late instead of Present.

Duplicate check-in policy

  • Ignore duplicates — keep the first check-in; later ones are ignored.
  • Warn on duplicate — keep the first check-in and flag repeats.
  • Keep latest — the most recent check-in overwrites the earlier one.

Other options

  • Attendance window — how long check-in stays open.
  • Notify parents on absence — emails parents and notifies the student when they are marked absent.
  • QR mode — new schools start on static (one code for the whole session); switch to rotating to have the code change on an interval you set (minimum 30 seconds; we recommend at least 1 minute).

Note: Manual marking by a teacher always saves the latest value, regardless of the duplicate policy (which only applies to QR check-ins).

Note: Students can also receive their own email alerts. Turn on the "Notify students" master switch in Settings (under "Notify parents & students"), then choose which events — late, absent, 3 absences in a row or new grades — email each student from their row on the Students page.
